This group was set up as a result of 2 parishioners who were living with cancer and the effect it was having on their lives and their families. They felt that although they were supported by their families, relatives could not fully appreciate what the diagnosis had meant to them personally - only someone who had been given the diagnosis could really understand the impact of those words.
Based on this the idea to have a parish support group was born, discussed with the parish priest and set up.
The group meet on the 3rd Wednesday in the month in the committee room at 7.30pm. This is an informal group and people who have/had cancer and their families if they wish, meet to have a chat, a cup of tea and the chance to discuss any problems that they have relating to their illness, side effects of chemotherapy, financial concerns and support that they may want from someone who can really understand how they are feeling.
Speakers can be arranged if the group want them and counselling from others within the parish can be arranged.
