Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist are sacraments of Christian initiation. They ground the common vocation of all Christ's disciples, a vocation to holiness and to the mission of evangelizing the world. They confer the graces needed for the life according to the Spirit during this life as pilgrims on the march towards the homeland. Two other sacraments, Holy Orders and Matrimony, are directed towards the salvation of others; if they contribute as well to personal salvation, it is through service to others that they do so. They confer a particular mission in the Church and serve to build up the People of God.

It is evident from its celebration that the effect of the sacrament of Confirmation is the special outpouring of the Holy Spirit as once granted to the apostles on the day of Pentecost.From this fact, Confirmation brings an increase and deepening of baptismal grace:
- it roots us more deeply in the divine filiation which makes us cry, "Abba! Father!";it unites us more firmly to Christ;
- it increases the gifts of the Holy Spirit in us; it renders our bond with the Church more perfect; it gives us a special strength of the Holy Spirit to spread and defend the faith by word and action as true witnesses of Christ, to confess the name of Christ boldly, and never to be ashamed of the Cross.

The gift of the Holy Spirit is conferred upon a candidate through the Sacrament of Confirmation. Confirmation takes place every year in our parish with Fr. Brett, around about the time of Pentecost. The Bishop attends every three years for Confirmation.

Preparation courses take place from September onwards and involve a weekend retreat. Year 10 or older? Add your name to our list of candidates - ring or email us - details below.
Our young people aged fourteen or over, are invited to think about whether or not they would like to be confirmed. All requests to join the course should be made directly to Father Brett and application forms are available at the Parish office, or for more details contact Kim.

During the preparation course, our candidates explore their beliefs and feelings for a commitment to adult faith. At the Ceremony of Election, they affirm their trust of witness to Christ, whilst the Parish community affirms the support of our prayers.
